Articles - Christina Avoids Adam Levine At ‘The Voice’ Upfront

Oh, drama. Or should we say – UGH, drama.

Anyone who watched “The Voice” this season could tell the tension between coaches Christina Aguilera and Adam Levine was palpable and not just for the cameras. Aguilera was easily the most outspoken judge on the panel and rarely sugar-coated her opinions, coming across as overly harsh at times. Levine opted to go in the exact opposite direction, playing the nice guy.

(Which, as MTV’s resident “Voice” recapper, is not to say we think she was necessarily wrong most of the time. Indeed, it was strangely refreshing to watch a judge, you know, judge contestants, and Aguilera certainly knows a thing or two – perhaps more than any other judge on “The Voice” panel – about the technical side of singing. It was her directness and sometimes callous delivery that were controversial, not her actual opinions.)

Now, the conflict has reportedly reached a fever pitch, as Aguilera opted out of the red carpet at yesterday’s NBC Upfronts, during which Levine tweeted, “I thrive on awkward moments.” Aguilera did appear on stage with Levine and Cee Lo Green during the official presentation, though Levine stood far away from Aguilera on stage (above).

The pair started butting heads early in the season over contestant Tony Lucca. Lucca was a co-star of Aguilera’s on “The Mickey Mouse Club” when they were tweens, though the “Beautiful” belter didn’t seem to initially remember him during the blind auditions. Levine picked Lucca up for his team, and throughout the competition, Aguilera went after him hard. So hard in fact, it seemed that other motivations might have been in play.

The “feud” became a running theme of the season, so much so that by the finals, Levine, anticipating Aguilera’s criticism of his contestant’s final competitive performance, wore a glittering “Team Xtina” T-shirt under his flannel and revealed it when the pop star expectedly started laying into the singer-songwriter.

Reports that things were even more uncomfortable behind the scenes are rampant. Did Levine and Lucca pick Jay-Z’s “99 Problems” for his final song as one last dig at Aguilera? Was she so hard on the contestant because of an unrequited teenage crush? Did Levine really call her that backstage after the show’s final performance episode? Who knows, but there is a laundry list of rumors about the feud, and no one (especially Levine) comes across very well.

The apparent trouble between the two has fans of the show (me at least) concerned for its future. NBC announced yesterday that the show will air two cycles during the 2012-2013 TV season (both fall and spring) with a September 9 return date already announced. Open-call auditions around the country begin in July, with the Blind Audition rounds with the star judges likely to begin filming sometime in early August ahead of the premiere.

That’s only a few months away and if Aguilera’s past feuds with Kelly Osborne and Mariah Carey are any indication, she’s not exactly one to forgive and forget. And to be perfectly honest, as a fan of the show, I’m not really interested in seeing these two bicker their way through another season because of unresolved personal problems. Their job is to fairly judge the singing talents of “The Voice” contestants, not spend months engaged in passive-aggressive taunts to satisfy a personal vendetta for which they appear equally culpable.

Articles - ‘The Voice’ Tony Lucca: ‘Aguilera duet could happen’

Posted by: Maria on May 10th, 2012 @ 7:51 pm // Tagged: , , ,

The Voice’s Tony Lucca has hinted that a duet with Christina Aguilera is possible in the future.

Aguilera had frequently chided her former Mickey Mouse Club co-star Lucca throughout this season of The Voice, leading Lucca to say this week that her criticisms were “pathetic”.

Lucca, who ultimately finished third in The Voice finals, later revealed that Aguilera had apologised to him and has now teased that they may even work together.

“I’m not going to say never, but I’ll be curious if our paths cross in a collaborative fashion,” the singer told Access Hollywood. “She’s the voice of a generation and she is an old co-worker, so I’m not going to be that guy who says no.”

He added of their past quibbles: “It’s water under the bridge, but I don’t see a creative future there.”

Lucca went on to credit The Voice for changing the very course of his life.

“I came in here hoping for more exposure and a boost to my career… what I get out of it is, is an incredible like, new life creatively for me,” he said.

“It just tapped into something here that I didn’t see coming, and I’ve never been more excited about getting back to the creative work space, and getting out there and getting reacquainted with my fans and meeting the new fans and just building on every last opportunity this has ushered in.”

The Voice crowned its second winner on Tuesday night (May 8) when Jermaine Paul triumphed over Juliet Simms in the top two.

Articles - Cee Lo: Christina & Adam Need to “Get Over” Their Feud

Posted by: Maria on May 10th, 2012 @ 4:09 pm // Tagged: , , , , ,

From US Magazine:

When it comes to Christina Aguilera and Adam Levine’s nasty feud on The Voice, Cee Lo Green isn’t willing to take sides. In fact, he doesn’t understand the fuss in the first place.

“It’s getting a little old and a little inconvenient for everyone,” Green, 37, told Us Weekly of the bitterness between Aguilera, 31, and Levine, 33, which came to a head on Monday’s show when Aguilera slammed Levine’s singer Tony Lucca over a “derogatory” cover of Jay-Z’s “99 Problems.”

Although Green tells Us he was only peripherally aware of the brouhaha that went on behind the scenes regarding Lucca’s song choice, the coach wants the negativity to end — and fast.

“Adam hasn’t come to me and spoken to me [about his issues] and neither has Christina. But whatever it is, I’m hoping that we can get over it,” Green admits. “It’s not something that we should carry over into season three. I want the integrity of the show intact.”

The Voice’s host, Carson Daly, is also miffed by the drama created by Aguilera and Levine, but believes their spat is only temporary.

“It’s frustrating in the same way when you’re just with your family on Thanksgiving and the conversation over Monopoly gets heightened for a second: I’m looking at my sister going, ‘is my blood really boiling over the fact that you have Park Place?’ Then it goes away. And that’s what that was,” he said, referring to Monday’s exchange. “It’s nothing new for us.”

Articles - The Voice: Christina Aguilera Apologizes to Tony Lucca

Posted by: Maria on May 9th, 2012 @ 7:12 pm // Tagged: , , , ,

Tony Lucca didn’t win season two of The Voice — Jermaine Paul did — but the finalist did walk away from the NBC singing competition on better terms with Christina Aguilera.

After a whole season of catty back-and-forths between the former Mickey Mouse Club costars came to a head on Monday’s performance episode — Aguilera charged that Lucca’s cover of Jay-Z’s “99 Problems” was “derogatory to women” — the 31-year-old pop star was seen whispering apologetically to Lucca towards the end of Tuesday’s show.

“She just wanted to clear the air a bit,” Lucca, 36, explained to Us Weekly of the private chat. The “Dirrrty” singer “apologize[d] that this became much more of a dramatic thing than she ever intended it.”

Lucca (who called Aguilera “pathetic” backstage on Monday’s show) responded in kind.

“I said to her, ‘I hope that we can be cool moving forward,’” he told Us. “I take pride in the fact that my whole career has been a career of integrity, and sound relationships.”

Although Aguilera initially didn’t recall Lucca from their days as Mouseketeers, not all of Lucca’s costars had the same amnesia. “I take pride in the fact that Justin [Timberlake] and JC [Chasez] and people will go to bat for me. Because of that integrity, I would hate to think that through this whole course that [Christina] and I would both suffer on the backside,” Lucca mused. “So, you know, water under the bridge.”

And Lucca does not blame Aguilera’s harsh criticisms for his loss on the show — but wondered whether their feuding turned voters off.

“Her criticism for the most part has inspired me and led me to a higher plane than I might not have found otherwise,” he surmised to Us. “I’ve tried to turn that all into positive and use it for creative inspiration but I don’t know . . . maybe this is America’s way of saying that they don’t want to reward this sort of petty back-and-forth kind of thing.”

Articles - Shakesville: The Voice of Misogyny

Posted by: Maria on May 9th, 2012 @ 7:07 pm // Tagged: , , , , ,

By Shaker BrianWS at Shakesville.com:

During its first season, I was a huge fan of The Voice, a singing competition on NBC currently in season two. The talent level on the show last year was just ridiculous and introduced me to one of my favorite artists, Dia Frampton. This year, the competition has been a bit on the underwhelming side, but I continued to watch in hopes that someone would begin to stand out, and thankfully that happened—Juliet Simms, the only woman among the four finalists, is a true star. She’s an electric performer with a voice that can tell a story all by itself.

The fact that she’s the only woman in the finals on a show where Christina Aguilera is the only woman on the judges’ panel is particularly worth noting after a disgusting exchange on Monday night’s episode when the finalists performed one more time in an attempt to win the competition.

(For those who don’t watch the show, each of the four celebrity judges picks a team of singers which is slowly whittled down to one. The four finalists then compete in a grand finale to see which of the contestants—and judges—wins.)

Maroon 5 lead singer Adam Levine’s finalist, Tony Lucca, who has to date made his way through the competition by way of a shortcut through Gimmick Avenue (and an assist from his coach, who gave him a higher rating than his semi-final female opponent Katrina Parker, because he enjoyed the “bromance” they had, allowing Tony to advance despite the fact that America voted 52-48 for Katrina), performed his last song, and the choice was a country-tinged cover of Jay-Z’s “99 Problems,” a song in which the hook is the line “If you’re havin’ girl problems, I feel bad for you son / I got 99 problems but a bitch ain’t one.”

After Tony performed “99 Problems” on last night’s episode, the judges were asked for their responses. Christina, who has in the past criticized Tony for being one-dimensional (and also knows him personally, as they were on The Mickey Mouse Club together), told him he had a great voice and then added, “Your beautiful wife and your daughter, and family are here tonight, and I just thought, you know, the lyrical connotation was a little derogatory towards women…but all in all it was good fun.”

Let’s pause here: Note how restrained that statement is. The song relies heavily on misogynist language, but Christina didn’t even spend her entire critique talking about that—she complimented Tony on the performance and gave a barely passing mention of the fact that the lyrics are problematic, yet it still earned her the misogynist wrath of Tony’s coach, Adam.

When it came time for his critique, Adam responded with, “First of all, just to clarify so you all know, the intent behind this song, we talked about this for hours, Tony and I, and you know, the ___ ain’t one is life getting’ at you, things bringing you down, you know, we’re not referring to women, we’re referring to everything.”

Christina said, “It says ‘if you’re having girl problems,’ so it IS a girl.”

Adam responded by talking over her and saying in an extremely condescending tone, “It’s called a metaphor,” a line that was met with nauseating, wild applause from the studio audience, at which point Adam took off his flannel shirt to reveal a “Team Xtina” t-shirt underneath—thus obliging Christina to applaud after he’d insulted her, or risk losing as though she doesn’t support her remaining team member, who, of course, is Tony’s competitor and had yet to perform his solo number.

There is so much vile shit to unpack in this that it’s tough to even know where to start.

First, Christina is the only woman on this four-judge panel, and she was the only one to even make the most passing mention of the problematic and misogynist lyrics—and when she did so, it was in the least aggressive way she possibly could have, yet her comments were still met with MORE misogyny. She was shouted down, talked to like she was clueless and hysterically overreacting, and met with derisive and dismissive words simply for pointing out the misogynist lyrics. Basically, she got treated like shit for ruining the fun misogyny party for all the men! It’s so much more fun when there aren’t women around to complain, amirite?! (Or men, but men who complain about that kind of shit are either totally gay or basically women anyway, for sure).

Adam, meanwhile, came prepared. Several websites have reported that an even more severe argument broke out between Adam and Christina during rehearsals for Monday night’s show, with multiple but unconfirmed reports that Adam called her a “cunt,” in the process. I’m somehow inclined to think there’s probably quite a bit of truth to that after seeing last night’s show—especially since he had that “Team Xtina” tee at the ready, if she challenged him on-air.

Adam’s claim that the line “99 problems but a bitch ain’t one” is about “life getting at you,” is a total non-starter, metaphor or not (spoiler alert: not!). Let’s say it really is just a metaphor—which is an awfully generous interpretation—it is still a problem. If you’re applauding a song that uses misogynist language to talk about life being tough, using the word “bitch” as a placeholder for various woes is STILL misogynist! “Life’s a bitch” still relies on anti-woman sentiment.

(See also: Using the feminine as a symbol for “mayhem.”)

And rather than perhaps admit that Christina might have had a point worth hearing, Adam responded aggressively with more misogyny toward her, as misogynists are apt to do when challenged—so challenged by even the slightest, most non-aggressive hint that they might be contributing to a serious problem.

He was ready for this exact confrontation (again: “Team Xtina” shirt at the ready), and was prepared to ensure that, in a space where defending a misogynist song would receive huge applause, he would also be able to deflect any meaningful criticism. Christina found herself in that spot that has been oft discussed here—she could continue to defend acknowledging the problematic aspects of the song and reject Adam’s dismissive response to her and get accused of being a “bitch” and ruining the show (and even without continuing on, she was still accused of those things in recaps this morning), or she could let it go, stay silent on it for the remainder of the night, and allow the show to continue as if nothing had happened. That’s the untenable position she found herself in—the terrible bargain.

This exchange on the show last night is a perfect example of the problems with a culture so steeped in misogyny—the purveyors of it are the ones who receive applause. Those who challenge it are shouted down with more misogyny as though their concerns are the result of hypersensitivity, as though there can be no meaningful discussion to be seriously had about how misogynist language is harmful to both women AND men, because they can’t even be bothered to recognize that there is any kind of problem inherent in that language to begin with.

I appreciate what Christina Aguilera does on this show every night, because this is really just the obvious, out-in-the-open breaking point of a season full of more underhanded, insidious misogyny that has been directed at her. It was especially nice to see her with her finalist, opera singer Chris Mann, onstage after his “thank you” performance to her. She got up out of her chair, embraced him, joined him on stage and told the audience, “This is a real man. A real man respects women.”

While noting the problem with “real” language, it was a nice, and honestly touching, moment, to see her there after having been the target of such an ugly display so soon before, standing alongside a man whom she truly seems to like, respect, and care for, and to see him return that tenfold as he stood alongside a woman he genuinely respects, and likes, and cares for.

The whole thing—the audience’s reaction not only to the performance itself, but to Adam’s attacks on Christina afterward, reminded me so hard that if there is one thing America seems to love so dearly, it’s men who openly hate women.

I’ll say this—I’ve got plenty of problems in my life. Maybe 99. Maybe more. Maybe fewer. But I do know that if Tony Lucca and Adam Levine win tonight—finding time to watch The Voice next season sure as fuck isn’t going to be one of them anymore.

[Notes: If there is any further incident on tonight's finale, I will post a follow-up tomorrow. Also, my thanks to Liss for helping me tease out some of the ideas in this post.]

Articles - ‘The Voice’ recap: 99 Problems (And Xtina Ain’t One)

You can read the full article on Entertainment Weekly’s site.

Before the Tony Lucca’s fans descend upon me and peck out my eardrums, let me just say: I like Tony Lucca, okay? Let him play “Devil Town” or “Death of Me,” and I could listen to him strummy-strummy-strum all day long. Tonight, his version of Maroon 5′s “Harder To Breathe” was pretty solid, and his duet with Adam on the Beatles’ “Yesterday” was lovely. Those guys can harmonize!

But I worry that Tony’s music just translates better in a bar than it does on stage. Nothing he did this season was all that memorable until he started a beef with Christina by covering Britney Spears’ “Baby One More Time.” (It’s a long story.) And honestly, it’s lame that he’s now getting most of his attention at Christina’s expense. I can’t believe he chose Jay-Z’s “99 Problems” for his showpiece. Doing a bluegrass version of this song isn’t exactly an original idea: Hugo did it first, and way better, back in 2010. Also, didn’t the b–tch part feel a little pointed? When Christina complained that “the lyrical connotation was a little derogatory toward women,” she was half-right. It was derogatory toward one woman in particular: Christina herself.

At first, Adam tried to defend Tony’s song choice. “The [b--tch] is life getting at you,” he explained. “It’s called a metaphor.” But when Christina corrected him, pointing out that Jay-Z specifically mentions “girl problems,” Adam just gave up and stripped down to his “Team Xtina” t-shirt.

Cool idea, but Cee Lo’s “No Problems” t-shirt was funnier. Besides, if Adam really believed in metaphors, then why did he need to wear that shirt?

Articles - Christina Aguilera & Cee Lo Green hit the studio

Posted by: Maria on April 12th, 2012 @ 7:13 pm // Tagged: , , ,

Here’s an article about Christina’s and Cee Lo’s collaboration for Cee Lo’s upcoming album from Billboard.com:

Before Tuesday night’s episode of NBC’s “The Voice” could begin, audience members were given the chance to ask the show’s coaches a handful of questions. One of Christina Aguilera’s fans echoed what a lot of people are wanting to know: When is your next album coming out?

All in good time, was the general response from Aguilera, whose last studio effort was 2010′s “Bionic.” She said quality was more important than quantity and that she wanted to find “personal” songs to record. She did point out, however, that she does have a song she’s recording with fellow judge Cee Lo Green. She would not give the title and Green was equally cautious when Billboard caught up with him after the show.

“It’s a song for her album. I won’t disclose the title, because it could possibly be a working title,” he said. “You know, but we’ve talked about it amongst ourselves and I’m gonna go in on it and work it out. It’ll be the second song we’ve done.”

He added that her part of the unnamed track is finished. “I just gotta get in there and… Splash.”

The duo’s previous track, “Nasty,” surfaced online last year but was recorded well before the pair were on “The Voice” together. Green told “Late Night With Jimmy Fallon” in May 2011 that the unreleased track was turned down for the soundtrack of “Burlesque,” the 2010 film Aguilera starred in.

Aguilera’s seventh studio album, “Bionic,” debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard 200 in June of 2010 and has sold 303,000, according to Nielsen SoundScan. Her career total album sales amount to 16.7 million. Add another 574,000 if you include the soundtrack to “Burlesque.”

Her last single, “Moves Like Jagger,” a collaboration with Adam Levine’s Maroon 5, was one of the biggest hits of 2011, spending four weeks atop the Hot 100 and selling 4.9 million copies, according to Nielsen SoundScan.

Christina Aguilera Debuts Fab New Look!

Christina Aguilera is working the hell out of her new style, and we don’t blame her—she looks stunning!

The Voice judge, who debuted her soft, wavy blond tresses and smoky eye makeup on her hit show Monday, stepped out sporting a similar look when she was spotted with boyfriend Matthew Rutler in West Hollywood last night.

Max Liron’s pop superstar mom, 31, rocked a formfitting long-sleeve color-block dress to go with her oh-so-pretty hairdo, sultry eye makeup and nude lips during her dinner date at the Little Door.

It’s quite a switch-up for Christina, who has favored ultra-glam, Old Hollywood-style looks in the past.

Are you loving the “Beautiful” singer’s latest transformation as much as we do?

Articles - Christina Aguilera: Reality TV’s Best Judge (Surprisingly!)

Posted by: Maria on April 6th, 2012 @ 6:07 pm // Tagged: , ,

Last season on The Voice, Christina Aguilera personified the Hot Mess. Joining the show shortly after divorcing husband Jordan Bratman — and amid reports of her hard-partying ways, which led to her arrest for public intoxication in March of 2011 — Aguilera was a mentor more “Dirrty” than “Beautiful.” Her season 1 ill-fitting wardrobe was just the start of it — the singer also seemed bored with her new role on reality TV and not entirely committed to mentoring her eager contestants. Her comebacks to Adam Levine’s barbs were typically awkward, and her self-promotion tactics went into overdrive. Yes, Beverly McClellan’s “Beautiful” duet with Aguilera was fittingly gorgeous… but it was also a cover of “Beautiful.” Why push your music on a series you’re already headlining?

But what a difference six months make. Sure, Aguilera’s wardrobe has yet to completely redeem itself — though her high-collared shirts last night were a definite improvement over her Battle Round Barbarella-meets-Royal Wedding look — but the singer sure has. Over the course of season 2, Aguilera has managed to turn herself into the reality series’ most valuable mentor. Not only have her Levine-directed insults become sharper, but her passion during the blind auditions also allowed her to lock in some of the buzziest contestants. (See: Current frontrunner Jesse Campbell.) And she’s already proved she’s guiding her team on a successful path: The singer was spot-on when she warned contestants during the blind auditions that she would have more time to commit than busy countryman Blake Shelton — Aguilera’s song suggestions for her team last night were far fresher and more fitting for each contestant. (Seth and Amy say, really Blake Shelton? “Livin’ On a Prayer,” “Alone,” and “Living for the City” for your team? American Idol called — it wants its season 3 material back.)

Perhaps more impressively, during last night’s first live show, Aguilera officially established herself as the only useful talent judge left on popular reality TV. Following Simon Cowell and Paula Abdul’s Idol exit, the Fox singing series has been weighed down by three judges seemingly incapable of critiquing contestants, no matter how much they butcher Adele. (I know — it seems mean to shoot Eben Franckewitz when he’s down, but dear God, boy.) And, so far this season, The Voice’s panel has been guilty of the same crime — until Aguilera finally called out Naia Kete for her thin cover of Adele’s “Turning Tables.” Can we give her a round of applause for finally channeling that honest voice within?

Now, don’t get me wrong: There’s still enough mess in the much-hotter Aguilera to keep her entertaining. The aforementioned wardrobe that dangerously borders on malfunction, the hilarious stage mom instincts that lead her to mimic her contestants’ dance moves from her spinning chair, etc. But her actions on this season of The Voice have also reminded us that the girl’s damn talented — not only does she know how to bring out the best in other singers, but she allows her singers to bring out the best in her. One of my favorite moments of this season remains Aguilera’s impromptu duet with Sera Hill — there’s no doubt that Alpha Aguilera saw this as an opportunity to prove her vocal dominance, but it was a moment as sweet as it was calculated. Would Cee Lo turn away from Erin Martin’s legs long enough to be inspired by the most talented on his team? Purrfect says “No no no.”

So let’s applaud Aguilera for her work thus far on season 2 of The Voice — it was about time for her arrival. And NBC should be sending her one big fruit basket to wear on her head: Her commitment to the series makes it that much harder for TV fans to throw in the towel when it comes to The Voice. Even this dedicated Idol fan has fully embraced being blasphemous by throwing her UFO hat into the series. So, please, Aguilera: Continue delivering good TV and quality reality show judging — how refreshing it’s been to see you rub us Voice fans the right way. Wait, is that gross?

Who else is loving Aguilera this season?

Here’s a few of the many recent positive articles:

Check her out: Christina Aguilera’s amazing makeover!
Talk about an image re-haul — Christina Aguilera looks like a different woman! She claimed not to care about being called fat, but the singer was snapped in LA last night looking noticeably slimmer and sleeker. Christina appears to be over the pants-less look (phew!) and she’s gotten rid of that Snooki-esue beehive. Forget about battle with the bulge – don’t you think the 31-year-old totally owns that skimpy green number she’s sporting? Christina’s boyfriend Matt Rutler is one lucky lad. His lady is back and better than ever.

Slimline Christina Aguilera shows off weight loss with polished look for romantic dinner with boyfriend Matthew
She’s come under a lot of flack for her weight gain over the past few months.

But the singer looks to have slimmed down as she headed out for a romantic meal with boyfriend Matthew Rutler.

But while the high-neck, long-sleeved dress she wore may have appeared demure in comparison to her usual style, it was more alluring than it seemed at first glance.

The 31-year-old donned a green and blue frock that clung to her curves as she dined at The Little Door restaurant in west Hollywood.

The clingy two-toned dress created a flattering silhouette for the curvy star. and some height was added with towering black platform heels.

Christina and Matthew were enjoying date night at the intimate venue, considered one of the most romantic restaurants in town.

The star recently hit back at her critics over her weigh, saying: ‘As long as I’m happy in my own skin, that’s all I need, that’s all the confirmation I need. I’m happy where I am, I have a boyfriend that loves my body, I love my body, my son is healthy and happy. That’s all that matters.’

The night off last night will have been a welcome break from the mounting pressure on The Voice.

This week Christina was forced to send home two acts in the first elimination show.

‘They’re all such unique talents and it’s like comparing apples and oranges,’ she told The Hollywood Reporter after the show. ‘How do you really send someone home? I had to go with my heart.’

As she and fellow coach Blake Shelton each turned away two acts, Christina told the contestants: ‘I just have to say, your song choices were spot on. I loved seeing the versatility in all of you.

‘I have a special place in my heart for all of you, but I have to go with my instinct and my gut and my heart, and that’s Ashley.’

She eliminated Moses Stone and Sera Hill.

Christina Aguilera’s New Body Looks Amazing
Is it just us, or is Christina Aguilera looking better than ever these days?

We have to admit, the 31-year-old singer and “The Voice” star has gone through a bit of a rough patch lately, style-wise. She sported that odd Sonia Rykiel disco CD-ROM headband for multiple “Voice” tapings. She had that famous self-tanner malfunction. There was that too-tight bodysuit she donned for the Michael Jackson tribute concert, which earned her the nickname “Snookitina.”

After her new TV gig cast her into the national spotlight once again, Aguilera also fell under nasty criticism for her curvier frame: Howard Stern slammed her as “plus-size” (he used it as an insult) during an interview with Adam Levine, and Kelly Osbourne snarked about Christina: “I was never that fat.” Complex magazine said she “look[s] less like a genie that could actually fit in the bottle.” But throughout it all, Aguilera declared that she was “very confident” about her body — a message we’re definitely on board with.

But lately, we think Christina has even more reason to be proud of her appearance. She’s lost the frizzy curls in favor of a sleeker blown-out ‘do. Her makeup looks waaaaay less dramatic. And Christina also opted for a better wardrobe on last night’s first live eliminations episode of “The Voice”‘s second season, donning a tangerine-colored bandage dress that wonderfully showed off her figure.
